Ivey & Crook were the architects of DHHS, however, Harry James Carr was the contractor who built the main building in 1928. There is a stone plaque on the left as one enters through the front door of Druid Hills High School which credits H. J. Carr as the contractor. |

1284 Fairview Road Former home of the Alfred Uhry's grandmother, Mrs. Lena Fox. Alfred Uhry wrote the play Driving Miss Daisy based on his memories of characters from his childhood in Atlanta. The character "Miss Daisy" was inspired in part by his grandmother and her sisters. Adapted from the screenplay into a movie, the movie was nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Makeup, and Best Screenplay Adaptation in 1989. Alfred Uhry was a Druid Hills High School graduate. |
