Dear Parents:
Our students work very hard
each day to meet and exceed their academic goals and I would
like to congratulate them for their efforts. We have evaluated
all of our test results and are utilizing them to create a curriculum
to support all of our students in reaching their ultimate level
of achievement.
We continue to utilize Discipline
Based Arts Education (DBAE) in our curriculum. It is the foundation
that has provided our children, parents and teachers with a wealth
of opportunities and experiences that they would not have had
in a traditional educational setting. Any child or adult who
has been exposed to the arts integration into our daily curriculum
has had a life changing experience.
As you know we are the only
"Sugar Free School" in the United States of America.
We have received a lot of national attention about our nutrition
program in the past years. I am proud to announce that on June
3, 2004, Browns Mill School's unique nutritional program, Academic
Excellence Through Nutrition and Exercise, was spotlighted on
ABC News with Peter Jennings. This was one component in a series
of segments on Obesity in America Crisis. It was the most emailed
story of any aired. We have received many positive phone calls,
letters, and emails from across the country applauding the children,
parents and Browns Mill Staff for doing such an outstanding job
of keeping our school environment free of foods laden with sugar.
As we continue to be in the
spotlight this year we will rise to meet the many opportunities
and challenges with which our children are faced each day. I
ask that you continue to support us in keeping our school a healthy
environment in which our children can learn and grow. I look
forward to working with you to better meet all of the needs of
our children. I know that this year will be the best ever.
Best regards,
Yvonne Sanders-Butler
