OVERVIEW
Bob Mathis Elementary School opened its doors in 1975. It is located in the heart of South DeKalb County and is known for its excellent educational program. Our students are encouraged to assume personal responsibility for their academic performance. The faculty has high expectations for all students. There is a continuous assessment of the student’s progress and the educational programs. Our media center is the hub of the school with a large collection of books for our students, and staff. Reading is encouraged throughout the school day.

Parents and community members are welcomed and appreciated for their continuous support for Bob Mathis Elementary School. We welcome parents/visitors to our school. Please sign in at the front office. Someone will be available to assist you. We work together in achieving our goals.

    UNIQUE ASSETS
    Bob Mathis Elementary School is unique with its population and community support. Teamwork and collaboration are major components of the efforts to achieve the goals and to accomplish the school’s mission. The staff accepts the challenges that each day offers and takes ownership in the school and the children.

    Bob Mathis Elementary School continues to show academic success by meeting and exceeding the State of Georgia’s Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) expectations. Bob Mathis has met AYP goals for seven years, which gives us the status of “Distinguished School.”

    We participate in Georgia’s Red Ribbon Drug Awareness Week, with activities such as Wear Red Day, Too Cool for Drugs, and No Place for Hate. All students participate in the 25 Books Reading Campaign.

    Bob Mathis has an active PTA, and School Council. Bob Mathis PTA does an excellent job of supporting our students and teachers in many ways. PTA sponsors Honor’s Day Trophies, Fall Festival, and Scholastic Book Fair. Our students have the opportunity to participate and excel in other areas.
