Mission

To achieve positive results; assure that all opens in same window icon school councils [ http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/school-councils ] are organized, trained, and serving the academic needs of students; assure that all charter petitions recommended for approval have met state and local requirements and are in the public interest; and organize/develop special projects as directed by the Superintendent.

Responsibilities

The Governmental Relations and Special Projects office responsibilities include:

  • state/local governmental liaison duties for the school system, including examining and seeking passage for all legislative issues introduced in the opens in new window icon Georgia General Assembly [ http://www.legis.ga.gov/ ] with favorable impact on DeKalb County
  • developing and advocating for the school system's legislative agenda
  • communicating the legislative agenda to the DeKalb County legislative delegation, general assembly, the governor, and other educational/governmental agencies
  • special projects:
    • communication between school system and state agencies and organizations (Georgia Department of Education and other educational agencies)
    • overseeing the school and opens in same window icon parent council [ http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/parent-portal#parentCouncils ] programs
    • overseeing the charter school program
    • various special projects as directed by the Superintendent
