Governmental Relations
Mission
To achieve positive results; assure that all
school councils [ http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/school-councils ] are organized, trained, and serving the academic needs of students; assure that all charter petitions recommended for approval have met state and local requirements and are in the public interest; and organize/develop special projects as directed by the Superintendent.
Responsibilities
The Governmental Relations and Special Projects office responsibilities include:
- state/local governmental liaison duties for the school system, including examining and seeking passage for all legislative issues introduced in the
Georgia General Assembly [ http://www.legis.ga.gov/ ] with favorable impact on DeKalb County
- developing and advocating for the school system's legislative agenda
- communicating the legislative agenda to the DeKalb County legislative delegation, general assembly, the governor, and other educational/governmental agencies
- special projects:
- communication between school system and state agencies and organizations (Georgia Department of Education and other educational agencies)
- overseeing the school and
parent council [ http://www.dekalb.k12.ga.us/parent-portal#parentCouncils ] programs
- overseeing the charter school program
- various special projects as directed by the Superintendent
