Purpose:

Orchestra is a musical-performance course in which a student studies music through prepartion and performance of music for string orchestra and full orchestra in various styles from Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras and 20th Century works.

Meeting Time:

Orchestra meets everyday 1st period. 8:00-9:30 Students who cannot sign up for orchestra due to a class conflict meet before school 7:20-7:50.  

Activities:

Orchestra presents three concerts each year (Fall, Winter, & Spring). In addition to these concerts the orchestra participates in Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), district 4, and the Orchestra Festival. This is an adjudicated festival and the Druid Hills Orchestra has a tradition of recieving the highest ratings available.

Students also have the opportunity to perform in smaller ensembles (string quintet, string quartet, trios, duets, etc.)

Students who participate in the orchestra also have the opportunity to audition for other performing organizations including: Georgia All-State Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, Govonor's Honors Program, Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Dekalb Youth Symphony.
