The DeKalb County Council of Parent/Teacher Associations (PTAs) has great expectations and has aimed high to improve and enrich our many existing programs/projects and to create new ones as needs arise within our council, local units, schools, and community. Preparation/training, inclusiveness, team building, mentoring, role modeling, communication, recognition, and effective leadership have been the council's goals as we work cooperatively with our school district and our local PTAs to give every child one voice. As part of Georgia PTA District 11, our council is affiliated with both the opens in new window icon Georgia PTA [ http://www.georgiapta.org/ ] and opens in new window icon National PTA [ http://www.pta.org/ ] organizations.

Council Goals

The DeKalb County Council of PTAs will be the most effective visible, valuable, volunteer driven organization of the community with the purpose of supporting our school district's mission of having every child learn at a high level.

Community Visibility

The council will become more visible in the community by

  1. promoting region level kick off meetings to generate excitement, broaden our audience, and build community presence;
  2. expanding public relations activities and advertising all council activities; and
  3. meeting with council members to share the PTA message, confirm the communication channels, and identify future leaders.
  4. broadening interest by promoting programs and partnerships in an effort to attract veterans, ethnic groups, and new leaders;

Training

The council will build the value of PTA in our training by

  1. evaluating and adjusting training materials to provide up-to-date information and methods;
  2. connecting local PTAs and sharing ideas and resources through social networks, websites, email, and phone.
  3. adding job-specific training for council delegates to ensure consistent responsibilities;
