About Us
HistoryLocated at 5435 Roberts Drive in Dunwoody, Georgia, Austin has provided education for DeKalb County students since its opening, September 2, 1975. Austin was constructed to alleviate overcrowded conditions at Vanderlyn and Dunwoody Schools, and initially was designed to serve grades one through seven.

In 1978 eight additional classrooms were added as well as a kindergarten program. In 1985, due to the closing of Dunwoody Elementary School, two hundred students and eleven teachers joined the Austin student body and staff. In 1988 upon the opening of Peachtree Junior High School, which housed grades seven through nine, Austin became a kindergarten through sixth grade school. In 1995 Austin welcomed its first pre-kindergarten class. As of September 1, 1998 the sixth grade students are housed at Peachtree Middle School (formerly Peachtree Junior High School) making Austin a pre-kindergarten through fifth grade school.
Mission The mission of Austin Elementary School, in partnership with staff, parents, and community, is to provide a safe, nurturing environment where challenging and creative teaching occurs utilizing state of the art resources. Individual learning needs will be met and students will develop into confident, productive members of society.
