It is a pleasure for the administration of the Dekalb School Systems Operations Division to welcome you to the site of the Sam A. Moss Service Center.
We invite you to browse through the various links in an effort to get a glimpse of the many services that are provided by the Service Center. It is from the Sam A. Moss Service Center that comprehensive support services are dispatched. Not only do we provide the technical, skilled and general support services which undergird the instructional programs for the 144 school and centers in the DeKalb County School System, but our responsibilities also extend to all phases of planning and construction; site selection, contract management related to capital improvements; maintenance of all licensed vehicles and trailers; and distribution of textbooks, school furniture, instructional and office supplies, groceries, and maintenance items. We also provide mechanical maintenance services led by heating and air conditioning specialists, audiovisual technicians, delivery truck operators, electricians, equipment mechanics, plumbers, welders and mechanical shop technicians. We maintain the fields and all related aspects of operation at the five regional stadiums. A daily courier service makes deliveries to all site locations.
As the DeKalb County School System has grown, so have the facilities from which the comprehensive services originate. Prior to 1968, Maintenance, Warehousing, Fleet Maintenance and Transportation operated from the Chestnut Street Warehouse in the Scottdale Mill area of the county. This facility consisted of one concrete building and two army barracks located on approximately three acres of land. In 1968, the Service Center Complex located at 1780 Montreal Road in Tucker, Georgia was built. In 1985, the Service Center Complex was dedicated to Sam A. Moss, the late Deputy Superintendent of the DeKalb County School System. It is situated on 27.41 acres and provides 197,961 square feet of floor space, including one of the largest warehouses in the southeast. Service Center employees, bus drivers and custodial staff exceed 1,350.
